Absa Mauritius is proud to support the publication of Moris Ikonik, a book that captures the essence of Mauritius through its history, landscapes, and cultural heritage. This is the first book published by In Other Words Editions, a newly established publishing house founded by Mélissa Leclézio, Sandra Mussard, and Elena Boulart. By supporting this initiative, Absa Mauritius is promoting local creativity while empowering three women who have turned their passion for writing into an entrepreneurial venture.

"From the moment we were introduced to this project, we were captivated by its vision. By supporting it, Absa Mauritius is reinforcing its commitment to fostering female entrepreneurship, an essential driver of women’s empowerment and broader economic development. At the same time, we are promoting local talent and championing art and culture. This initiative aligns seamlessly with our purpose of being an active force for good, actively contributing to the creation of a more inclusive and sustainable society," explained Jennifer Johnson, Head of Marketing and Corporate Relations at Absa Mauritius.

Moris Ikonik brings together a diverse group of artists, writers, illustrators, photographers, and graphic designers, who each contribute their own perspective to narrate Mauritius in words, images, and colors. Through 50 iconic features, the book paints an authentic portrait of the country, covering everything from culinary specialties and cultural events to religious festivals and everyday objects. The result is a rich, immersive journey into the essence of Mauritian identity.

"Moris Ikonik perfectly reflects our purpose: ‘Empowering Africa’s tomorrow, together… one story at a time.’ While this book brings together the vibrant narratives of Mauritius, it is also the product of inspired individuals driven by entrepreneurial spirit and boundless creativity. It is a deeply human project, rooted in authenticity, that mirrors our values and our promise: ‘Your story matters,’" added Jennifer Johnson.

Through its support for Moris Ikonik, Absa Mauritius reaffirms its dedication to championing female entrepreneurship and fostering a more inclusive society. This project is a true celebration of Mauritian talent and a testament to the positive impact we aspire to create in our communities.
