About the artist

Banele Khoza (b. 1994) is a visual artist born in Hlatikulu, Swaziland (now Eswatini). Since moving to South Africa in 2012, he has gained significant acclaim in his relatively short art career. Khoza spent his formative years in his homeland of Swaziland, before relocating to South Africa as a fourteen-year old teenager. After completing his secondary education, he attended the London International School of Fashion for a year. Upon his return, he chose to pursue Fine Arts at Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, where he later taught drawing before becoming a full-time artist.

Since graduating, Khoza has emerged as a leading figure in the southern African art scene, receiving critical recognition, international residencies, and global collections that have accelerated his career. He was awarded the Absa L'Atelier Gerard Sekoto Award in 2017. He now runs an independent gallery, Bkhz, located in Rosebank, a leafy suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa.
