Empty Prophesis

Pastel - 2018

This artwork is from a series of artworks Sithole produced for his 2018 solo exhibition in the Absa Gallery, entitled New Dispensation. The exhibition was an introspective and reflexive project that focused on the social and political conditions that many South Africans find themselves in on a daily basis.  It drew on how their emotions of sadness, pain and joy  motivate them to continue to strive for a better life and a better tomorrow.

In Sithole's own words, "The pieces are mostly inspired by societal changes, memories and the lived experiences that various South Africans and South African communities have and use to construct and understand their daily reality."

Through his artwork, Sithole uses bright and vibrant colours to tell a story in a pleasant and decent manner. He tries to avoid colours that promote hatred and deepens inner pain, as colour impacts a person's emotions.
